Afgelopen week was Art Basel met daarin, als onderdeel van de Unlimited show een videoinstallatie van de in Montréal woonachtige kunstenaar Rafael Lozano-Hemmer en de Pools-Amerikaanse kunstenaar Krzysztof Wodiczko.
De installatie moet je bewust maken hoe camera's en beveiligingssystemen ons kunnen volgen. Met 12 camera's en dit soort monitoringssystemen maakten Rafael Lozano-Hemmer en Krzysztof Wodiczko een videoinstallatie die de bezoekers volgt en de beelden projecteert op de wand van de galerie.
Volgens een quote op Fast Co Design:
"Krzysztof has a lot of experience with surveillance of groups in public, growing up in communist Poland, where three people in close proximity already triggered a suspicion of unlawful organization," Lozano-Hemmer writes in an email. "The piece is right at the borderline between the narcissistic seduction of reality TV and selfies, as you see yourself represented in a colossal scale, but at the same time there is an Orwellian predatory vision that is not unlike the target acquisition footage of smart bombs or drones."
